We and other Little Visitors come to a special dwelling. Something is simmering and bubbling on the stove, and a cloud of fragrant steam wafts through the room. The peculiar hostess doesn't just prepare tea or soup for the visitors, but cooks various dried herbs, fruits and vegetables, seaweed or tree bark. By mixing these concoctions with lemon, baking soda or alum powder, our hostess performs a chemical reaction that produces a variety of colourful tinctures. She begins an adventurous and inscrutable alchemical process full of surprising colour transformations.
This performative workshop is about plants and the spirit of alchemy. We will learn how to make natural color pigments from plants and use them just like ink or watercolor paints. We will cook, brew poitions, experiment and most importantly paint!
Veronika Vlková
The artist Veronika Vlková is mainly dedicated to the illustration of children's books, which she creates in collaboration with the artist Jan Šrámek. Their latest books include the award-winning To je metro čéče and Apolenka z modrotisku, for which the duo won the Illustrator of the Year Award at the Czech Grand Design, 2020. She works at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno.
