V záři blesku at Malá inventura

Presentation of the performance In the Glare of Lightning as part of the festival Malá inventura.

A theatre performance for children, their parents, and all who wish to speak the language of art and magic.

Come with us to follow in the footsteps of Joseph Beuys. First he flew, then he was shot down—but he recovered, became an artist, and wore a hat. He drew lines and spent his whole life asking what art is. What kind of language is it that allows us to communicate even without words? And who might we encounter if we listen to him?

In a flash of lightning, the project brings together a theatrical performance and an exhibition into a séance, a healing ritual, or a celebration of art and creation. It invites everyone unafraid to get their hands dirty into a landscape of objects that conceal the seeds of transformation. Robert Smolík and Veronika Vlková here jointly reflect on the work and legacy of the visual artist, performer, educator, and art theorist Joseph Beuys. His thinking brought about a significant shift in the 1970s in the perception of art—as something that belongs to the life of every individual and as a means of changing the world. In a quiet dialogue with his work, Smolík and Vlková seek possibilities for renewing our relationships with the Earth and its inhabitants. In doing so, the duo seamlessly continues their previous collaboration with Terén on the Návštěva, a production presented in South Korea, Mexico, Finland, Croatia, Slovakia, and numerous Czech festivals.

Malá inventura is a festival of new theatre that has been presenting and supporting significant projects of the Czech independent and experimental scene for more than 20 years. Every year it connects artists, professionals and the general public and creates a space for sharing, reflection and mutual inspiration.
