TIME FOR COLLABORATION . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁
City Councillors’ Club Brno hosts the third, May Day installment of the STÁTKY series. The student collective Fasáda, active between the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts at BUT, is preparing an event open to anyone who feels the need to see more in Labour Day than just a day off work. Come and try out how an independent, community-driven zine is created from scratch, based on a shared desire and need to collaborate. At the end, we will launch and celebrate the new issue of Fasáda, and everyone will take home their own copy.
The creative afternoon will be followed by Studio Alarm with a discussion titled Labour Day – from the massacre of workers to blockades of neo-Nazis: “Labour Day, the First of May – a day of political demonstrations, street conflicts, and blockades of neo-Nazis in Czech streets. Although we are used to having the day off on May 1st, few of us actively celebrate it. Even fewer people know its history and the political and social struggles connected to it. It began to be actively commemorated in the late 19th century, recalling the Chicago workers’ strike and the subsequent massacre at Haymarket Square. What other moments are tied to May Day? Why is it so important for the anarchist movement, and how does it relate to the blockades of neo-Nazi marches in Czech cities?”
The discussion, focused on the history and context of Labour Day, will be led by Alarm’s editor-in-chief Jan Bělíček.
A HOLIDAY OF LOVE AND LABOUR . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁
How do today’s students view their upcoming entry into the labour market? What role does work play in their lives, and on what values would they like to build their working future? For the Fasáda collective, May Day is the ideal time for critical questions: “We see Labour Day as a moment when we can allow ourselves not only to not work, but also to critically reflect on the topic and nature of work. We are interested in what a new form of engagement could look like, at a time when past modes of celebration—whether staged festivities or strikes for better working conditions—are losing their political effectiveness. We are searching for a form of collective public expression that would reflect the contemporary nature of work.”

AUTHORSHIP °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Fasáda is a project that evolves over time at its own pace. It was founded at the Faculty of Architecture at BUT in 2024 as a platform for student expression and creation.
It was co-founded by Anežka Ondračková, Vojtěch Zajíček, and Helen Kukuľová. It operates intermittently as a non-hierarchical collective, as an event, as work, as a learning process—and at times, parts of it become fixed, for example in the form of a magazine. Fasáda also functions partly as a creative and curatorial collective. Its membership is fluid and open.

Anežka Ondráčková
She studies architecture (FA BUT) and simultaneously works in the Intermedia studio at FaVU BUT. In her work, she emphasizes process as the primary “outcome.” She is interested in themes of self-soothing, memory, and nostalgia, through which she critically reflects on her feelings and reformulates her relationship to the past. She presents her work mainly through physical objects, texts, and video installations.
Vojtěch Zajíček
Alongside his studies at FA BUT, he also studies Intermedia at FaVU BUT. He is interested in theoretical texts, particularly critiques of capitalism and psychoanalysis by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. He also writes critical texts himself, seeking possible forms of autonomy, especially within architecture, art, and human subjectivity. He would describe himself as an adhocist.
Helen Kukuľová
In her architectural and artistic work, she explores existential reflections on life, experience, and complexity. She examines themes of corporeality, freedom, and spontaneity as different modes of creative practice. She often works with found materials, records of reality, and fragments of objects. In addition to architecture at FA BUT, she studies Intermedia at FaVU BUT.
Kristýna Veselá
Her interests include testing the boundaries of architecture as a discipline, with an emphasis on production. She rejects the often glorified enthusiasm for working through the night and instead prefers quality sleep. She is currently a student at FA BUT.
Emma Džurbanová
She is interested in sensitivity as a political theme—in relation to architecture, public space, and herself. As a student at FA BUT, she is often compelled to reconsider her personal boundaries around work.
