Writing Letters to Belarusian Political Prisoners – accompanying programme to the performance Jedu do Magadanu, which will run at the Sklepní scéna CED from 19:30. Organized by Amnesty International in cooperation with Theatre 3+kk and Terén.

As of 29 February 2024, there were 1,402 male and female prisoners in Belarusian prisons who are considered unjustly imprisoned (prisoners.spring96.org/en). Among them are bloggers, entrepreneurs, activists and other ordinary people who felt the need to express in any way their disapproval of the current Belarusian regime. Imprisoned, they face often absurd accusations that the regime uses to intimidate and silence other opponents.

In prisons, detainees are deliberately kept isolated from the outside world – contact with family is denied and they often cannot afford a lawyer. Every letter or postcard that reaches them through the prison walls therefore offers little but valuable psychological support and contact with a distancing reality.

Come show your support for the unjustly imprisoned in Belarus. At a time when it seems as if their struggle has been forgotten, they need it more than ever. All materials needed to write and send letters to Belarus will be provided by the organizers.

There will also be an exhibition, We Are All Terrorists, depicting the fate of several Belarusian political prisoners.
